Fall fun for the kiddos

Now that fall has officially begun it becomes challenging trying to figure out what to do with my kiddos. Every year it's the same old thing.  Trying to figure out what to do with the kids that will keep them entertained. As a family we always end up going on nature walks and visiting the pumpkin patch and sometimes other area fall festivals.

1. Nature walks...Delaware has several State parks ready to be explored.  They can also be fun and educational.  Kids can  learn about some of the plants life. Why leaves change colors.  Maybe see some wildlife.

We enjoy going to Trap Pond in Laurel, Del. or Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, Del. Both  places offer great trails to spend an afternoon hiking. Cape Henlopen State Park is the home of Fort Miles which was used during the Revolutionary War. There is also look towers and the view from the top is spectacular.

2. Pumpkin Patch and corn maze... Not only do they get to pick out their own pumpkins,  but they can have fun going through the corn maze.  Letting them pick which way to go is always fun.

We like going to Mr. Pepper's Pumpkin Patch in Laurel Del. My kids love walking the fields and searching for the perfect pumpkin to make jack-o-lanterns. They also enjoy getting lost in the corn maze. My husband and I let them choose which way to go and it's fun seeing them navigate their way through the maze. And for a small fee you can get a hayride around the farm.

3. Apple Scrapple Festival... Yes in our area there is a festival dedicated to apples and scrapple.  Lots of vendors and fun activities.

If you are ever in the area of Bridgeville, Del. on the second weekend of October than come and enjoy some of the activities that the festival has to offer. There is food vendors, a carnival, and trinkets to buy all around town.

4. Sea Witch festival.. Always fun at the beach with a Halloween theme parade on the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach, Del.

You and your family can enjoy the Fiddler's Festival, 5K race, sea witch hunt, costume parade and much more. Never to earlier to let the kids dress-up in their Halloween costumes.

This is only a small list of things we do together. Sometimes we come across other fall festivals. That's the fun of it all. So next time you want to do something with the area check your local area for fall activities and festivals.

Until next time!

Samantha Jan
