Halloween 2018

Witches, Goblins, and ghosts! You know it was Halloween when children and yes, some adults get dressed-up in their favorite costumes.

Many would say dressing up is the best part, but if you ask my kiddos they will tell you it's about the candy. Trust me when I say there will probably candy for months.

I am 100 percent positive after a while the candy nobody likes will be left at the buttom of the candy bowl. You know the ones....Tootsie Rolls, Laffy Taffy's, and Smarties. I can guarantee  all the Reese's, Snickers, and Almond Joys will be the first to disappear. *Some of those will end up in my mommy stash! Come On! Don't tell me as a parent you haven't picked out the good stuff for yourself? You're probably unwrapping one of those as we speak!

For my kids, the best part about Halloween is receiving candy. But it's also about finding the perfect costume. No matter what your favorite part about Halloween, it's important that you have fun and be safe.

This year, I had a pirate, 50's girl and a Halo Master Chief. For the girls and my nephew the festivities began a week before Halloween. Many of the local churches in the area began having trunk-or treats the week before Halloween. Trunk-or-Treats are a safe and fun way to get candy and to experience the holiday.

The kiddos attended  several Trunk-or-Treats, decorated several pumpkins, went on hayrides, and of course received  lots of candy. But it is more than just dressing up and getting candy. It's about spending time together and having fun as a family.

In this day in age, protecting our children is a priority. It doesn't mean that nothing will go wrong, but sometimes it is better to attend trunk-or-treats than going out on Halloween.

Two of my favorite Trunk-or-Treat spots this year, were Powerline Church, in Elon and the Crosslink Community Church Trunk-or-Treat Buffaloe Lanes, in Mebane.

*Powerline Church: This was the second year we attended the trunk-or-treat at this church. They have lots of games, a hayride, a costume contest, and they feed you dinner. The kids can also enjoy hot cocoa and roast their own Marshmallows.

*Crosslink Community Church(Buffaloe Lanes):This year we decided to try this trunk-or-treat out and let me tell you it was the biggest one we have ever attended. There were so many trunks and so much to do. My kids loved this one the best and judging by the amount of candy they received I know why. I think it is the feel of community that makes this trunk-or-treat my favorite. Kids have the opportunity see police officers and firefighters. They got to take pictures with Chase from Paw Patrol) or the Buffaloe Lanes mascot. There was music and a bounce house and most of it was very well organized.

Overall, it is safe to say the kids had fun this year. It warmed my soul to see the joy in their faces. Candy won't make you happy or last forever, but memories....last a lifetime.

Until next time!
Samantha Jan
