A Christmas Miracle
Christmas has come and gone, but one thing is for certain it was definitely one to remember. Yeah, some people worry about the food and the gifts, or whose tree is the biggest or who has the best displays, but this year Christmas for my family was by far the best in a long time.
The Tradition..
Since a young child my mother had a Christmas tradition for us. Every Christmas Eve she would load all the kids up and ride around looking at Christmas lights while listening to Christmas music. We would get home and were given one gift to open, then it was off to bed. On Christmas morning my step-father would cook breakfast while we opened our presents. This went on every year until all us kids grew up and went our separate ways.
A new generation...
When I had children of my own, I wanted to keep the tradition going. It wasn't hard to do. I take my kids riding around on Christmas Eve and we look at Christmas lights and you got it we still listen to those same old Christmas songs on the radio. We skipped the Christmas Eve gift opening and really it's not missed here. We still make Christmas breakfast while the kids open their gifts. Old habits die hard.
A Christmas Miracle....
This year Christmas was a little different. For the first time in five years my mother had all four of her children in the same room under the same roof at the same time. She saw her 3 grand-kids. Not only that, but she has a fourth on the way, and has accepted a fifth who belongs to my brother's girlfriend. What makes this truly special is my siblings and I who have alienated ourselves from each other put aside our differences and made this happen. The credit actually goes to my brother Joel, but you get the gist.
My mother's one wish for so long finally came true... The one thing that she has wanted for Christmas finally happened. Who in a million years would've thought this day would come. Certainly not me!!! I cannot say when this will happen again, but I was so happy for my mother.
This year proved no matter how far away one lives, that anything is possible. Yes, I will miss my mother and step-father. I will also miss my pain in the ass sister. I will really miss the only blue-eyed, blond-haired guy who ever stole my heart my nephew. One thing... I know is, family is forever. No matter how screwed up your family is at the end of the day their family. If you fail to see that than you have some serious soul searching to do. My family isn't perfect, but it's perfect for me.
Until Next Time..
Samantha Jan
