Thanksgiving 2015
Me and my oldest daughter |
This year Thanksgiving was a lot different than ones in the past. Although it was a great day overall, the absence of my mother, stepfather, sister and nephew made was definitely noticeable. With them living 8 hours away and not being able to make it was a hard pill to swallow.
But that wasn't the only thing different at thanksgiving this year. My brother, Alberto who has lived in Upstate New York for the past four years finally joined us at the table this year.
Another thing that was different this year was Thanksgiving dinner wasn't held at my house. This year we gathered at my brother Joel's house. The reason we decided on having dinner there was simple. It was his first year in his own place.
Moving on......to the food!!!
This year I prepped two honey and brown sugar glazed hams, Green bean casserole, candy yams, deviled eggs, and shrimp pasta salad. I had help with the food prep. My brother's girlfriend prepared the mashed potatoes, macaroni & cheese, stuffing, and gravy.
The day was mostly spent watching football, socializing and eating. At the end of the evening we parted ways and promised to do it again next year.
One thing I learned this Thanksgiving.. To be thankful for what you have. My family may not be perfect, and may be broken, at the end of the day we're family.
So I'll close with this... It's not about the food. It's about family and family should be cherished.
Until Next Time!!!
Samantha Jan
